Moving to Rehab!

Praise Report:
Jack is moving tomorrow to St. Judes Hospital in Fullerton! He will be receiving intense rehab. Let's all let Jack get settled in before we go visit him so that he can adjust to these new intense workouts. The doctors say that this next step for Jack will be both mentally and physically tiring.

Movement:
Right leg- During rehab, his right leg is lifted by an assistant at the knee and ankle. He now has the strength in the right leg to apply pressure all the way down to the bed (this is the same right leg that he had no movement in at first).

Right arm - Jack has the ability to move while being assisted.

Oral Motor- Jack is able to swallow now and has a gag reflex! (It looks like they will be taking out the tracheostomy in the near future!)

Speech- Jack is able to make some sounds.

Mental:
Going right along with past updates, he is 110%. In fact, he is excited about moving to Fullerton and a family member stated that he said, "The kids can go home now!" He is always concerned about others' well being!

The next blog should be udated about mid-week, and it will fill you in on visitation times for Jack. So until then, let's all continue to lift Jack and his family up in prayer!

Hi Jack,

I just got finished reading the update on how you're doing... it's awesome. I know God is right there with you!

I know that you have much work ahead and I know the daily challenges will be great. I will pray for the Lord to continue providing you the strength, energy and hope as He has throughout this great trial.

God is as proud of you as we are Jack.

Jack, i think about you every day. in fact, i was driving last week and saw a guy walking down the street and i had to double look cause i thought it was you. i thought to myself "MAN! talk about a fast recovery!!!" Even though it wasn't you, your still making a fast recovery and keep it up, in no time you will be walkin down the street! And katie,if you ever are feeling down, you know who to call for a smile cause you know who can always make you crack up! i love you guys, god bless and keep up the great recovery!!

Hey there Jack & Karen & family,

We are so excited & totally thrilled to hear you're moving along so well and ready for the "Next Steps!" :)

The new location is very close to us in fact! Two of our daughters (Tay' & Kenz') were born at St. Judes Hospital (it's an awesome place as far as hospitals go) :) They were kind enough to put a bed in the room for John & even fed him while I was recouping, b/c I was there for about 8 days. However, as great as it was, it wasn't a fav. vacation spot for sure! :0

Anyhow, Karen...if you are ever in need of a place to hang out (inbetween things) you're welcomed at our home. Also, in being so close to Jacks rehab facilities, please let us know, if there's ever ANYTHING we can do ~

Continue making those great strides Jack,
With prayers, love & concern,
John & Brenda Murray & girls rtk`

Hey Skip!
I just want to wish you the best at St. Jude's! We will miss you at University Hospital; you truly were a living testament of how motivation, family support, and love can change a person. You have done some wonderful things, and i hope it will continue just as strong at St. Jude's. We will miss you and thank you for the experience. God bless you and your family :O)

Sincerely, Michelle (OTS)

We are praying for and expect great things for you in the future. You have made such great progress in your rehabilitation already and we marvel how your attitude remains so very positive and hopeful. Most certainly you have encouraged us in our faith as we watch God's handiwork in you. And as far as your family I honestly don't know how Karen, Heather and Katie put in those 36 hour shifts! They are strong troopers and an incredible blessing to you and to us visitors as they continue to remain upbeat through the endless progression of people coming by to say howdy. Please know you remain in our prayers and we pass on our love to you all.

Richard, Sherri, Ryan, Amy and Paige Hawkins

Go Felony Flats! p(^_^)q

Need I say more? Yeah, I do! Mr. Hawkins not only can make some sounds but he can sing Shania Twain's "I Feel Like a Woman" and is working on some tongue twisters! Soon he will be bustin' a move and shaking his badonkadonk, right Jack? I really enjoyed working together with you and your awesome family! You will be missed here @ USC but it's great that you are moving on to St. Jude's for intense rehab. Keep doing what you're doing because it's working! Keep up with your oral-motor and other exercises. If you need anything, I'm just a (909) phone call away and I'll be waiting for that call from you!

Shannon (USC University Hospital Speech Pathologist)
P.S. You got the "pap smear valve" on?...I suspect that the trach will come out sooner than later.

Hi Jack,
You do not know me but I am very close to Rob and Kim Fazio. They are so very near and dear to me, and I am sure you feel that way about having Rob on your team. I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I started to pray for your health right away. I am praising God for the recovery notes I keep reading. Each day you are having now is a Gift and Sign from God that many prayers are out there for you pulling through this. I am so thankful to hear that you have Christ in your life. Well hang in there, my thoughts and prayers still are going out to you.
