Hospital Visit 6/22/07

  • Jack has great facial movement and expressions.
  • He is able to mouth words very well.
  • He is able to point at the alphabet board and spell words faster than most of us. "It will make you want to brush up on your own spelling! Pretty soon he will be using a board for his foot as well as his hand. The hand will be saying one thing his foot something else. If anyone could, he could. His progress is evident and remarkable." -Randy Barkley
  • Moving his left arm and hand very well, shook hands
  • He is teasing the doctors and nurses.
  • Smiles and laughs alot.

Jack communicated through the alphabet board for his thankfulness to all of you and continued to point up to God for all that He has done already!!!

Things to pray for:

  • Increased movement on both sides especially his right side
  • Continued improvement with his communication
  • His transition to a rehab facility in the near future

Good morning Jack from sunny hot St. George Utah!(108)

Wonderful to hear all the great news regarding your recovery and am certain the hospital staff is loving your one man "laugh Stop!"

Georgia and I have a number of good memories with your great sense of humor......remember the "case of the missing horse head statue?"

Being a western art and song lover, we thought as an accessory in your new offices a horse sculpture was appropiate.....well, it became the center of a practical joke by Jack Hawkins and staff I presume! It was reported missing and we looked everywhere for it to place it back where it was as we decorated the lobby and hallways. After much distress we surrendered and returned a few days later to find it in it's original position. This charade continued for a few weeks until He disappeared ltogether...ultimately we founds him behind a chest in the hallway and were told it was not a favorite piece of Mr. Hawkins! You 'fessed up and he was returned to the design department and replaced with a open old world globe!!

It took Georgia and me a little while to catch on to your prank but had a good laugh about it and hold it as one of our "Jack" stories! thanks for travelling down memory lane with us and we continue to hold you before the Lord as He brings total healing to a wonderful friend and brother in Christ! Much love to Karen and the family.

Love, Karen and Georgia

Hi Jack! It's just me again. I have been praying for you everyday. I think of you often. I sure hope things will get back to normal soon. We all miss you bunches!!! I always look forward to you coming in. (Especially when you are in just to hang out for a few) thats when it seems I get my story telling done!!! Speaking of stories, I have to tell you soon about my birthday party! You will just die laughing. Remember the theme right? Pimps and hos... Well it's petty bad when you look around and there is a real hooker in you house!!! I'm not kidding!! You know, it turned out to be one crazy night!! That is just one of the highlights! There is more to tell, but I'll save that along with a bunch of funny photos. I miss you, Jack. Please just get better, ok? Lots of love and prayers being sent your way... Lori

Hi Jack,

Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. Can't wait for you to return. It's a mystery to me...ever since you have been gone, I haven't lost my keys once. I saw the Police in concert Saturday night, and I remember you telling me about a year or so ago that you would love to see them in concert, so I brought you back a tour tee-shirt and I will have Joel bring it to you. Once I get the digitals of the show I will send you a copy. I am so happy to hear about your progress! See you soon.

Jack & Fam,

We are extremely heartened by the news of your continued recovery. We have no doubt that God will continue to bring healing and that He will continue to sustain those closest to you thru the process.

We miss your presence here at the office - though I dont think any of us miss you near as much as Joel does. Each afternoon we have to forcibly pull him from the cockpit of your helicopter. Apparently he likes to grip the controls and make helicopter noises while daydreaming about the day you're able to come back to the office.

All kidding aside, Joel and the rest of the mgmt team have done a fabulous job in picking up where you left off, while following the mantra WWJ(ack)D. You're dearly missed, but we've been able to deal with this difficult situation due to the quality people that you've installed in positions of leadership.

Looking forward to seeing you and continuing to pray,
Mitch & Christie Lowe

I've just learned of all that has taken place. I simply wanted to let Jack, Karen and the extended Hawkins family know that you are in my prayers. God is good and He is faithful. May He continue to give you strength.

Hi Jack, we've been trying to get through to this blog but unsure if any of ours actually made it ~ it's new to us and we've heard a few others too. Anyhow, we've been praying for you & Karen long before this ever might reach you. Glad to hear so much GOOD news & progress! Helen Keller said, "Keep your face to the sunshine & you cannot see the shadows." So, keep your positive spirit up and know we all are excited about hearing such great improvements in your recovery!
With Love & prayers to you & your precious family,

Jack, it was so good to see how much you have improved during our visit yesterday. What truly blesses us is your heart that remains ever so kind and gentle. You are certainly a real trooper and we are very, very proud of you. And your bride and kids are phenomenal gifts that remain faithfully at your side. Matthew has not even come home as yet! We caught Heather napping in the lobby, laying her head on the wooden armrest of a shortened couch for comfort. Ouch...but somehow she slept. Matthew was his typical smiling self, always a delight. Katie was playing the role of mother hen, bless her heart, and we were so proud to watch her tend to your needs. Sorry we missed Karen but I am sure we shall connect on another visit. But suffice it to say, your kids are the absolute greatest...a testimony to your love for them and a credit to how excellent you have been as their father. Please know you remain in our prayers.

God bless,
Richard and Sherri Hawkins

Hello Jack,
The rumor today is that your first meal will be an IN and Out Burger. Funny, how we don't choose the Mario's or Mission Inn's for our first meals after something like this but a good ole burger. We hear you may be moving later this week, don't think that we won't find you we will and boy are you in trouble when we do. Jamie, Sarah, Judy and I have been brushing up on our first aid skills and have decided to help with your physical therapy, of course you may just send us back to the office to do what we do best, our day job. Oh yeah, Joel made a real big MGMT decision this week to have the office music changed to Jazz, hurry back so the Country station can return. We all have gotten over the change but once your back here comes the Dixie Chicks. Miss you each and every day, love and prayers to you, Karen, Heather, Katie and Matt.

Physical Therapist Jane at your service.
